Destitute Rescue
Many individuals living with mental illness are abandoned or left to wander the streets, exposed to neglect, abuse, and severe health risks. MANOLAYA’s dedicated rescue team responds to calls from the public, police, and concerned well-wishers to bring these vulnerable persons to safety.
Every rescue is handled with dignity and compassion, ensuring the individual’s immediate medical and emotional needs are met.

Specialized Treatment & Holistic Care
At MANOLAYA, treatment begins with a thorough psychiatric evaluation conducted by some of the best psychiatrists in the region. Our multidisciplinary approach combines modern psychiatric care with the expertise of occupational therapists, counsellors, and trained nurses. In addition to medical treatment, we integrate holistic therapies such as yoga, meditation, and art therapy to support mental and emotional healing. Each care plan is tailored to the individual, ensuring the best chance for recovery and well-being.
Rehabilitation & Empowerment
Recovery is more than medical treatment—it’s about rebuilding lives. Our rehabilitation program focuses on skill development, vocational training, and confidence-building activities that enable residents to become self-reliant. Family counselling is a vital part of this process, helping rebuild trust, understanding, and support systems. By the time our residents leave MANOLAYA, they are better equipped—both emotionally and practically—to face life with renewed hope.
Half-Way Home: A Bridge to Independence
The journey from treatment to complete reintegration into society requires a supportive transition. MANOLAYA’s Half-Way Home provides this bridge. Here, inmates in a stable condition but unable to rejoin their families - both from MANOLAYA and from other institutions across Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thenkasi and Thoothukudi districts - receive focused life skills training, job readiness coaching, and social reintegration support. This environment fosters independence while still offering guidance, ensuring each individual is ready to rejoin their community with confidence.
Annapoorna Yathra
It is not possible for MANOLAYA to rescue and accommodate all the mentally ill or destitute persons living on the street. Hence, Manolaya provides this service in order to provide the basic need of good food to the mentally ill people living on the roadsides of Kanyakumari and Rameswaram district.
The program now has evolved into a mobile service, providing nutritious lunch to 300 people daily and treatment for minor ailments such as colds, fever, wounds and skin diseases. On a weekly basis, they receive a shave, haircuts and nail trims.
